Clinical exposure
Learn through real fetal medicine workflows, scan indications, referral questions, counselling and reporting patterns.
The Indian Institute of Fetal Medicine (IIFM), Nagpur, founded by Dr. Kunda Shahane at Mayflower Fetal Medicine & High-Risk Pregnancy Centre, is dedicated to training doctors in advanced fetal ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, fetal echo, Doppler and fetal medicine counselling.
Advanced fetal medicine should not remain limited to a few metro cities. IIFM was created to help obstetricians, radiologists and eligible doctors develop a structured, ethical and clinically grounded approach to fetal scanning and prenatal diagnosis.
Learn through real fetal medicine workflows, scan indications, referral questions, counselling and reporting patterns.
Training emphasizes systematic fetal anatomy assessment, first trimester screening principles and structured documentation.
Every program is grounded in PCPNDT compliance, patient dignity, confidentiality and medically indicated fetal ultrasound use.
Program structure, duration, eligibility, observer slots and certification details should be confirmed directly with IIFM. The following are the main academic areas around which IIFM training is built.
Structured exposure to first trimester screening, anomaly scan, fetal echo, Doppler, genetic counselling, fetal diagnosis and high-risk pregnancy scan interpretation.
Focused training in fetal viability, dating, NT measurement principles, nasal bone, early markers, combined screening interpretation and patient counselling.
Systematic fetal anatomy assessment with emphasis on brain, face, spine, heart screening views, abdomen, kidneys, limbs, placenta, amniotic fluid and report structure.
Training in fetal heart screening, four-chamber view, outflow tracts, 3-vessel view, arch assessment, rhythm clues, STIC exposure and referral-based fetal cardiac counselling.
Training in umbilical artery, MCA, uterine artery, ductus venosus and pregnancy-specific Doppler interpretation for IUGR, twins, anaemia risk and high-risk pregnancy.
Observational and counselling-focused exposure to amniocentesis, CVS, cordocentesis, fetal blood transfusion, fetal shunt and TTTS therapy pathways depending on case availability and eligibility.
IIFM training is designed around clinical reasoning, not just image acquisition. The learner is expected to understand why a scan is done, how to perform it systematically and how to communicate findings responsibly.
Understand fetal medicine indications, scan windows, terminology and ethical responsibilities.
Learn systematic scan views, measurement standards, documentation and report-writing structure.
Connect scan findings with risk assessment, genetic counselling, Doppler and follow-up planning.
Develop judgement for referral, counselling, uncertainty, difficult findings and multidisciplinary planning.
Dr. Kunda Shahane, MBBS, MS (Obs & Gynae), FIFM, FMF (London), is Central India’s first dedicated fetal medicine specialist and Founder of the Indian Institute of Fetal Medicine.
She has evaluated 20,000+ fetuses and has nearly two decades of fetal medicine experience, covering routine NT scans, anomaly scans, fetal echocardiography, neurosonography, Doppler, genetic counselling and advanced fetal therapy pathways.
IIFM reflects her belief that fetal medicine knowledge must spread beyond one clinic — so that doctors across India can serve pregnant patients with better skill, ethics and confidence.

IIFM is based at Mayflower Fetal Medicine & High-Risk Pregnancy Centre, where learners observe real clinical workflows, referral questions and counselling pathways under specialist supervision.
Exposure to GE Voluson Signature Expert, AI-enabled fetal imaging, Colour Doppler, 3D/4D imaging and STIC.
Learn how fetal medicine opinions are formed after abnormal scan findings, screening risk or high-risk pregnancy referral.
Training emphasizes PCPNDT compliance, proper records, patient privacy, consent and responsible reporting.
Final eligibility, batch availability, program duration and certification wording should be confirmed directly with IIFM before enrollment.
| Applicant type | Suitable training interest | What to mention in enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| Obstetricians / Gynecologists | NT scan, anomaly scan orientation, high-risk pregnancy ultrasound, fetal counselling and referral pathway. | Qualification, years of practice, current ultrasound exposure and preferred training module. |
| Radiologists / Sonologists | Advanced fetal ultrasound, anomaly scan, fetal echo orientation, Doppler and fetal neurosonography exposure. | Current scan volume, fetal scan experience, equipment access and learning goals. |
| Fetal medicine aspirants | Structured clinical exposure, fellowship-style learning, observer program or focused module-based training. | Career stage, prior fetal medicine exposure and desired duration. |
| Doctors from smaller towns | Practical scan workflow, referral criteria, reporting, counselling and ethical fetal medicine practice. | Location, practice setting, patient population and module preference. |
The institute is built around clinical excellence, ethical practice and clear communication.
A scan is not only image capture. It is a clinical answer to a referral question.
Every fetal scan must follow a structured checklist so important anatomy and documentation are not missed.
Difficult findings must be explained with honesty, sensitivity and a clear next-step plan.
Ethical fetal ultrasound practice and legal compliance are core parts of all training.
Fetal medicine works with obstetricians, pediatric specialists, genetic counsellors and neonatal teams.
Training is aligned with fetal medicine standards, structured protocols and responsible medical decision-making.
Indian Institute of Fetal Medicine, or IIFM, is the academic training arm founded by Dr. Kunda Shahane at Mayflower Fetal Medicine & High-Risk Pregnancy Centre, Nagpur.
IIFM training is intended for eligible qualified doctors, including obstetricians, radiologists, sonologists and fetal medicine aspirants. Final eligibility and program details should be confirmed directly with IIFM.
Training may include NT scan, first trimester screening, anomaly scan, fetal echo, Doppler, neurosonography, genetic counselling, high-risk pregnancy ultrasound and fetal procedure observation depending on program type and availability.
IIFM is based inside an active clinical fetal medicine centre. The level of hands-on exposure depends on eligibility, program structure, patient consent, clinical safety, batch rules and legal compliance.
Send your qualification, current specialty, city, fetal ultrasound experience and desired training module through the official clinic contact number or WhatsApp. The team can share current availability and next steps.
No. Mayflower Fetal Medicine, IIFM and Dr. Kunda Shahane strictly follow the PCPNDT Act. Determination or disclosure of fetal sex is prohibited by law and is not taught, supported or permitted.
