Most prenatal imaging in India follows a referral chain: a radiologist performs the scan, issues a report, and asks the referring doctor to correlate clinically. If something is found, a third doctor is involved for genetics, and a fourth decides what happens to the pregnancy. Dr. Kunda Shahane qualified in obstetrics and gynaecology first, taught it at university level, and then subspecialised into fetal medicine. That changes who is in charge.

Dr. Kunda Shahane
Dr. Kunda Shahane is Central India's first dedicated fetal medicine specialist. She has 20 years in medicine and 14+ years in fetal medicine, with over 20,000 fetuses personally evaluated. She established Mayflower Clinic in Nagpur to bring prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy to Vidarbha — a region previously without a single fetal medicine specialist.
She qualified MBBS at Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College, Yavatmal, completed her MS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Government Medical College, Nagpur, and served two years as Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Sumandeep Medical College. She then took her Diploma in Ultrasound and her Fellowship in Fetal Medicine (FIFM) at VS Hospital & Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad, and completed Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF), London certification afterwards.
She was the first in Vidarbha to perform fetal blood transfusion, to introduce laser therapy for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), and to establish a complete fetal therapy suite — procedures that previously required travelling to Mumbai or Pune. She is founder and director of the Indian Institute of Fetal Medicine (IIFM), Nagpur.
